Mindset & a Safe Space

Mindset plays a big part in how pregnancy and birth unfold. While in labor it can be hard to feel like you’re making a proper decision while having a surge of hormones running through your body in addition to the pain. So here lies my mindset of manifesting the best while planing for the options you have if your best doesn’t pan out.

Mindset and Birth

I was journaling today and came across this page. It reminded me of a topic that has been discussed in various settings throughout the doula world.

Mindset.

Mindset plays a big part in how pregnancy and birth unfold.

I tend to be a realist in life where I hope for the best but plan for the worst. I’m not a huge fan of the overbearing positivity we sometimes see in life. I feel I bring this to my practice because I believe it is best that pregnant people and their support team are prepared. I manifest positive processes and outcomes with my clients but I also inform them of the possibilities.

I strongly feel that discussing the possibly what-ifs before hand leads to being able to make quick and informed decisions when they pop up unexpectedly. While in labor it can be hard to feel like you’re making a proper decision while having a surge of hormones running through your body in addition to the pain. So here lies my mindset of manifesting the best while planing for the options you have if your best doesn’t pan out.

Safe Spaces and Birth

Another way to think about using mindset is to create a safe space for yourself. Do you have a place in your mind that is somewhere you’d be at your most peaceful and relaxed? Are you at the beach listening to the waves? Are you in a meadow listening to the wind rustle through the tall grass? Maybe you are sitting in your favorite spot at home listening to music?

Whatever it is, think about how you are feeling emotionally and physically. Bring those ideas into your birthing space!

Some birthing people use visual aids or listen to a guided track to keep them focused. There are many techniques to keep your mindset as positive and peaceful as you can. During our prenatal meetings we can discuss what your ideal situation looks like.

We can create music playlists, look through the affirmation cards I keep on hand, discuss scents we can put in the diffuser. We will look at massage and pressure point techniques and ways your partner and I can make you stay in your best mindset. All of which is discussed along side the medical options and possible interventions.

There are a lot of details and strategies that go into planning your birth but one of the most important is where you place your mindset. 💜
