Birth is a journey that includes your mind, body and soul. Why not prepare all 3 elements for it? Continue reading below to find out how to prepare for your holistic birth.
So you’ve spent these months throughout pregnancy thinking about the birth of your child and preparing your life for the new addition. What have you done to prepare yourself holistically? You probably have become more mindful of what you put in your body and how you move it. But have you also thought about your mind & your soul? It might be surprising to you to think about preparing yourself in those ways. Birth is a journey that includes your mind, body and spirit. Why not prepare all 3 elements for it?
Prepare Your Mind
What does preparing your mind look like? What can help ease your mind and make you feel more prepared going into birth?
- Take a Child Birth Education Class
- Work on reframing your mindset about pain and contractions
- Step away from conversations and stories about other’s birth experiences
Prepare Your Body
Out of the 3 topics, I feel as this one is the most spoken about. Even before getting pregnant many people research what is the best diet or movement routine to increase the chances of pregnancy. Most people start taking prenatal vitamins and talking to their providers about their health. What else can you do to prepare your body?
- Find a movement routine that includes positions you may use during birth to create the muscle memory
- As hard as this may be for many of us, welcome the changes our bodies are going through and remember your body is creating a new being
- Get to know your body in it’s new form and learn how these systems work
Prepare Your Soul
I think this one might be the most surprising topic for most people. It can also be the category with the most varied strategies. You may be religious or maybe spiritual, meditation may be your jam or something you cannot stand. Think about what speaks to your soul and use it to help with your transition to parenthood.
- Find what brings you peace and add that to your daily routine
- Imagine your birth space and what you would like it to be
- Take the time to process what adding to your family means to you
